Overview:

For over a century, the American Academy in Rome has awarded the Rome Prize to support innovative and cross-disciplinary work in the arts and humanities. Each year, around thirty artists and scholars representing the highest standard of excellence are selected. The fellowships are awarded across various disciplines including arts (architecture, design, literature, musical composition, visual arts, and landscape architecture) and humanities (ancient studies, medieval studies, modern Italian studies, historic preservation, and conservation). The Academy fosters a vibrant residential community of fellows, residents, and visitors deeply engaged with Rome's rich cultural history. Each fellow receives a stipend, a private bedroom and bath, a workspace, and access to the Rome Sustainable Food Program, which provides meals. Fellowships are available as half-term or full-term, with the former providing $16,000 and the latter $30,000. Fellows are expected to participate fully in the Academy's activities, contributing to a collaborative environment of artistic and scholarly exchange.
